External Services

This plugin optionally connects to two free external APIs to fetch live exchange rates. These connections only occur when an admin manually clicks « Fetch Live Rates » in the Exchange Rates tab. They are never triggered automatically or on the frontend.

1. Frankfurter API (api.frankfurter.app)
Used for: Fetching live exchange rates for major world currencies (USD, EUR, GBP and others).
Data sent: The base currency code (e.g. « USD ») and target codes (e.g. « EUR,GBP »). No personal data, no user data, no store data.
When: Only on admin action (« Fetch Live Rates » button click).
Provider: Frankfurter is a free, open-source exchange rate API with no user registration required.

2. ExchangeRate-API Free Tier (open.er-api.com)
Used for: Fallback exchange rates for currencies not covered by Frankfurter.
Data sent: The base currency code only (e.g. « USD »). No personal data, no user data, no store data.
When: Only on admin action (« Fetch Live Rates » button click) and only if Frankfurter did not return a rate for a given currency.

Both services are free, require no API key or account, and receive no personal data whatsoever.
