MyLiking – Web Accessibility Widget

Description

MyLiking adds an accessibility panel to your WordPress site. Visitors open it from a button in the corner of the page and adjust the site to suit how they read: larger text, higher contrast, a reading guide, a bigger cursor, paused animations and more.

You don’t need to change your theme or your content. Sign in to MyLiking from the plugin’s settings page and the panel appears on every page of your site.

Why add MyLiking

  • MyLiking is a support tool that reinforces accessibility for websites working toward the international WCAG 2.2 and the Japanese JIS X 8341-3:2016 standards, quickly and at a reasonable cost.
  • Since April 2024, Japan’s revised Act for Eliminating Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities (障害者差別解消法) requires businesses to provide reasonable accommodation. MyLiking helps you offer it on your website.
  • People with low vision, color blindness, dyslexia, ADHD, epilepsy or motor impairments can use your site more comfortably.
  • It works on smartphones, tablets and computers.
  • The panel is available in Japanese and English.

What visitors can adjust

One-click profiles set several options at once: Epileptic, ADHD, Color Blind, Visually Impaired, Dyslexia, Motor Impaired and Specific Learning Disorder.

Visitors can also change each setting on its own:

  • Contrast and color saturation
  • Text size, line height, text spacing and text alignment
  • Easy-to-read font
  • Reading guide, focus view and read focus
  • Bigger cursor
  • Highlight links and show external links
  • Hide images, disable video, pause animations and mute sound
  • Keyboard navigation, page structure and navigation structure

What you control from WordPress

  • Show or hide the panel
  • Widget color
  • Widget icon position (top or bottom, left or right)
  • Panel position (left or right)
  • Show or hide the MyLiking logo

Pricing

The plugin is free. MyLiking itself is a paid service: ¥19,800 per year including tax (about ¥1,650 a month), with a 2-week free trial. One contract covers your domain and all its subdomains. See liking.jp for current pricing.

MyLiking aims to support JIS X 8341-3:2016 and WCAG 2.1 and later as far as possible. Accessibility also depends on your site’s own structure, content and code, so installing MyLiking does not by itself make your site fully accessible or guarantee conformance to these standards.

  1. After activation, you will see « MyLiking » in your WordPress admin menu
  2. Click « MyLiking » to open the plugin settings
  3. Click « Sign in with MyLiking » to authenticate via liking.jp OAuth

External services

This plugin relies on the MyLiking service, operated by Toreador Inc. at liking.jp. A MyLiking account is required. No data is sent to any other third party.

Sign-in (administrators only)

When an administrator clicks « Sign in with MyLiking », they are redirected to liking.jp to log in. The plugin sends the site’s admin URL so liking.jp can return the administrator to it, and receives an access token. This happens only when an administrator signs in, and when the token is renewed.

Widget settings (administrators only)

On the plugin’s settings page, the plugin reads and saves the widget color, position and visibility for your site on liking.jp. Only the administrator’s choices and the access token are sent, and only while the administrator is using the settings page.

Accessibility widget (site visitors)

Once your site is connected, the plugin loads the MyLiking widget script from liking.jp on the front end. The visitor’s browser then loads your site’s widget settings from liking.jp. The plugin itself sends no personal data about visitors.
