Akismet Anti-Spam

Description

Akismet checks your comments and contact form submissions against our global database of spam to prevent your site from publishing malicious content. You can review the comment spam it catches on your blog’s « Comments » admin screen.

PS: You’ll be prompted to get an Akismet.com API key to use it, once activated. Keys are free for personal blogs; paid subscriptions are available for businesses and commercial sites.

Installation

Upload the Akismet plugin to your blog, activate it, and then enter your Akismet.com API key.

This plugin protected my sites from so many spam messages, I can't event count (but it told me it was several thousands). And I never had an issue where I didn't get an important message.

Automated systems with tiny URL tracker are great for special circumstances but not when it is used to retract all user controls and hand it to a anonymous super user. Sucks when you do the work and you see a flag waving in front of that was paid 125000.00 lol

It does help and picks up a lot of spam. But why not automatically add a honeypot field to forms (like the comment form, or contact form in JetPack, which are standard)? This would be simple to implement and pick up 90%+ of the remainder of spam, and could automatically send it off to add to the database of junk for analysis and auto-detection based on content. Thus, could be a lot better.
