Avis

Very powerful but a bit frustrating

All in all, this one is better than any other newsletter I have looked at.

After a brief time using this plugin:

The good:
• You can create excellent emails. The template builder is very good.
• Good controls for throttling send rate
• You can use Amazon SES to send emails. Cost is 1 cent per 100 emails!

The bad:
• Can be a big headache with excessive CPU usage if, like me, your site is hosted on Siteground. It actually made them take my site offline a few times until I figured it out. It took an uninstall and reinstall of the plugin to fix it. Which of course meant re-creating all emails and re-loading all lists & subscribers
• Free version limits you to 2000 subscribers, and there is a monthly charge for going over 2000. How about a flat fee for a pro version that lets me have more? And charging the monthly fee for using your sending service?

Could be improved:
• Let me create and save button and divider styles. Having to repeat the same button styling over and over is inefficient.
• The ability to sort posts by ascending/descending date would be useful in certain cases.
• Documentation needs updating. I wasted time following cron job instructions that only applied to earlier versions.

Excellent Plugin

This plugin is a bit complicated but once understood allows you to do a great number of things. Their support staff has been exceptionally good by helping me resolve a few issues with my web site. Thanks and keep up the good work.

Wanna B a Bug Tester? Free?

I used Mailpoet2 (MP2) for a year or more, and it worked fine. Then, when MP3 was introduced, MP2 went buggy, driving me to look at MP3. MP3 never worked. Mail never senbds, not one single time. So, I went back to MP2 and… mail never went out.

I posted in the forums, asking for ANY help or ideas from the developers. Not a peep. Not one reply. Nothing.

A few days later, still searching vainly in the 12 or so forums I subscribed to for help getting MP3 or MP2 to work, I stumbled across a short comment my Mailpoet that their sending service, the « free for 2000 subscribers » sending service, was taken down « due to abuse ». Sure, abuse. Not that MP3 is actually functional on my end.

I changed my theme, but it still failed. I disabled every single plugin except MP3, and still broken. It sends test emails, but never sends the post notifications. My cronjobs never send mail, and they are correctly set up. The ‘Send Button » was removed from MP2, and is not present in MP3 (THANKS, MP! You ROCK)

So, from my position as a 20+ year Internet developer/hardware designer/R+D engineer, I give MailPoet ZERO stars and have deleted them from my site forever. There are actual real products available which work flawlessly out-of-the-box, and you can even roll your own with software that will run on your own machine.

Goodbye, Mailpoet. Good riddance, and shame on me for ever tolerating your non-responsive behavior and your « it worked when we published it » attitude.

Almost

I go back to when this plug in was named wysija. There was a time years ago that they had a security breach and blew up my (and many other) websites. It was a disaster. I stayed with them because the price was right and I thought that after that there would be little chance of another breach and I was right. Nothing like that every happened again. I recently upgraded to Mailpoet 3 the pro version and switched to their email service for $100/year. Truly reasonable. However, I had issues with images not showing up in google and emails simply not being sent. The guys were really nice and tried but just couldn’t fix it. They returned my money and we’ve moved on. Over the years Mailpoet has been good enough but it was a very rocky road. Now the business has grown I’ve opted for something more robust but only a little more expensive called convertkit. So far it’s amazing but it’s only been a short period of time. If mail poet actually worked for my website I would still be using it if only for email blasts. You can create beautiful emails with the new plugin. I do wish Mailpoet the best with improving their product and service.
